Welcome!

Welcome to my little ol' blog. I'll be upfront about it: I don't blog very often any more. If you found your way here because you read my book "Trailer Life," have a gander! But it's easier to keep up with me on Instagram or on my Facebook page. I have this long, drawn out theory on why I'm a terrible blogger, but that is a story for another day. Enjoy the ramblings of my life from the last 8 years or so.

The Pressure

Tomorrow is school picture day. That means Kacy has to look nice. And her frizzy hair has to look nice. And I have to spend like 40 bucks so that everyone gets a copy of her portrait- and she'll probably be frowning at the camera because she can't pose with her hands by her face, and her hair will look awful because they'll give her that little black comb. That little black comb that she will LOVE and she'll try to make her hair "smooth" (Curly hair doesn't get smooth when you comb it. It gets nasty. Personal experience talking...). And you know what? I bet she starts to take her hair down and COMB IT and it'll be worth spending the money on a frowny, non-posing, frizzied hair girl- for her posterity, and for my sick sense of humor.

  1. She will be cute one way or another! Who came up with the idea to give children a comb before their picture was taken anyway. Frizzy or not...most kids aren't going to make any improvement with a little black comb.

  2. Kessa just had her first school picture done and I am sitting here waiting for the proofs. All I know is that she also has curly hair and wouldn't let me put it up that day. She also wore a grungy old white tshirt under a really cute zip up sweater and no matter how many times I told her to leave her sweater on I bet you she did not!!

Good luck though - I bet she looks cute.

  3. Your kids are so freakin' cute it is so not going to matter. BTW thanks again for the great visit, we really need to do it more often. Tell Kacey her drawing looks very nice on my fridge. ;)

  4. That is so funny....and true! Spencer had his pictures a couple weeks ago and he has this patch of hair that doesn't like to stay down. So in the morning before school, I put this hair glue stuff in it then I wondered..."do they still hand out those dumb little black combs and try to comb their hair?" I told Spencer, "whatever you do, do NOT let anyone touch your hair with a comb!" My son is so good (let's hope it lasts), he told his teacher that his mom said no one could touch his hair! FYI: if you've never used the hair glue, by the end of the day(or with combing) it kinda becomes a flaky mess! Hope her pics turn out cute no matter what. BTW, I actually followed my first born to school pictures the first couple years to make sure she smiled good. I know.....lame! Sorry for the book. Take care.

  5. Some of my favorite photos are of my kids crying, pouting, or just plain being naughty - the photographer is waiting patiently and I tell them to go ahead and take the picture - it's a true shot of their character, looks great framed in my office, and is hilarious!

  6. We do ours on the 7th. I'm really naughty and just get the 1 5x7 with the class picture and then just scan it! I know its illegal....but I think the prices they charge should be illegal!

  7. Whatever picture the photographer is able to take will be priceless. That cute little face of hers will lite up the room. Her hair is always cute, curly, frizzy or not. Just think of looking at her school picture 10 or 20 years from now. Take it from someone who is old and whose children live far far away. One day you’ll look at any picture you have her and treasure it like diamonds and rubies. Trust me. Yes Priceless.

  8. I told Sami "DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOU WITH THE STUPID BLACK COMB!" I hope she listens! And the prices are unreal!! I get the smallest (cheapest) package and pull a Jocelyn. We were spending over $400 pictures a year, and they sit on my fridge. Kacy will be adorable!Just give them out!

  9. I spent 45 minutes curling Tylee's hair one time and they combed it out I was so mad but she said they combed it they don't let the kids. I actually took Taegan to school today to make sure she smiles for her pictures because she is so ornery. They were doing a good job they were only combing the kids hair that was straight, they didn't touch any of the girls hair that had curls except for putting a few in the front so you can see them. They were even washing their faces with wipes. You never know they may turn out really good.

  10. My Mom tried the beat the system for years by being a volunteer who would actually weild the little black combs ... I could show you lots of evidence why she finally gave up in despair - the comb won.

  11. I got the package deal...$30 bucks for an 8x10, 2 5x7s, 4 Jumbo Wallets, 8 Wallets, and a class picture. Not so bad, at least I thought! It is the memory, school photos are supposed to look bad, and we are supposed to by them.

BTW you should always get the biggest print (8x10) when you plan on scanning and reprinting, that's what I did with the Picture People, and Sears.
