Well, it's not ALL about the white balance, but in the shots I took yesterday, they are improved with a post processing white balance thingie. I use Photoshop Elements 7, and with that program I adjusted "levels." That's the only adjustment so far- and mainly because I don't know how to adjust the WB on my camera BEFORE I take a picture. My goal is to learn enough so that I don't need PSE. It'll take awhile. Here are some before and afters.
Before- a little dark, and Ryan said all the pictures looked a little dingy. He's right.

After- on Kacy's I let the program do it automatically. Now that I see them side-by-side, I may go back and do it manually. I'm not sure I like it. Oh well!

Try opening the picture files in "Camera Raw" that will correct the white balance setting too, and will do some other amazing stuff for your pics {Go to file-open as- select the image--on the drop down pic "camera raw"} A new screen will open up that you have never seen before, and edit away!. I usually have my camera on "AWB" the auto white balance setting, but while at the pumpkin patch I should have put it on "shade" because the color was much better. I also have a problem because my two boys have such different skin tones. One last thing, you don't need Photoshop, I use PSE 6.0 and you can do almost everything Photoshop can, the steps are just a little different.
ReplyDeleteGo to CoffeeTeaPhotography.com, she has free actions for PSE users. They are easy to load and they rock! Also, JessicaSprague.com has some great photography editing courses for about $30-45, they are great! Have fun!
I keep telling myself the more I just get out and use the different settings on my camera the more I will learn. But it is still scary, and I don't know why, well maybe it has something the fact I know how I want things to look and when it doesn't come out that way I get frustrated. That is why digital is so fun, you can get rid of the things that don't work the way you want. I think all the pictures of your kids look great. Have fun with the learning!
ReplyDeleteYour kids are just cute, that's all there is to it... any light looks great!
ReplyDeleteYour new interest in photography is kind of making me want to take a class.
